Become a Member

To become a member of MHAA please fill out the membership application and either mail it to the address on the form, or bring it to one of our regular meetings.

Cost of Membership

  • Full Year Membership - $25 / year
  • Half Year Membership (for members joining after June) - $12.50 for the remainder of the year

Your membership dues go towards keeping the organization running (including, but not limitted to):

  • paying for insurance to allow us to do outdoor star parties
  • providing a stipend for our speakers
  • supporting local science fairs
  • maintaining our lending library

MHAA Newsletter

MHAA publishes a monthly newsletter with upcoming events and astronomical happenings, reports on past events, and articles written by our members.

Member Only Events

A number of member only events are run during the year, including

Reduced Rates on Magazine Subscriptions

Both Sky and Telescope and Astronomy magazine have special deals for club members.

Sky and Telescope provides a discounted rate of $32.95 for club members (the regular rate is $42.95), though they only provide this for single year subscriptions.  To take advantage of this offer make out a check to “Sky Publishing Corporation” along with your contact information or renewal notice, and give this to the Treasurer at any MHAA meeting.  Requests are processed every couple of months.

Astronomy Magazine provides a discounted rate of $29.00 per year, or $55.00 for two years.  Subscription processing can only be done once a year, in November.  Checks are due to the Treasurer at the November meeting with either your contact info or your renewal notice.  Make the check out to “Kalmbach Publishing Co.”

Sky Publishing also occationally offers additional special club offers, which will be emailed to all club members.

Lending Library

The club has a wide variety of things members can borrow, including, but not limited to:

  • Slide Shows on various Topics
  • Videos about Space Exploartion, Hubble, Apollo, The Planets, Eclipses, etc.
  • A 40-part (sic!) video lecture series about Astronomy, by Dr. Alex Filipenko, from UC Berkely. Starts out simple and progresses.
  • An Audio Tape of "A Brief History of Time", by Steven Hawking.
  • Lots of books on all kinds of Astronomy related subjects.

The Lending Library inventory is starting to be put online, you can browse available DVDs now, and will soon be able to see equipment as well.
