Star Parties

Our monthly Star Parties are scheduled as close to the new moon as possible, therefore the dates vary from month to month, but the day will always be Friday.

In the event of a cancellation the Star Party will be rescheduled for the following night, Saturday.

We usually meet at the gated entrance to Wilcox Park at the time given in the schedule.

During most of the year the gate must remain locked due to Park regulations so please be at the gate at the assigned time.

When the gate is locked we will make hourly runs to the gate to let people in and out, so if you get there and the gate is locked, please be patient.

We usually leave a cell number at the gate so you can let us know you're there, however cell reception at the Park is inconsistant so be prepared to wait.

During the "Summer season", Memorial Day through Labor Day, the gate is left open to accomidate campers so it isn't as important that you be there on time.

In any event, once in the Park we meet at the northern end of the Beach Parking Lot.

Indoor Business Meetings

We hold our business meetings the 3rd Tuesday of the month, 7:30, at the Coykendall Science Building, SUNY, New Paltz

The agenda is usually a very short business meeting followed by an interesting presentation on an Astronomy or Science related topic.

The level of the presentations are usually high school and above.

After meetings, weather permitting, we will hold a short sidewalk astronomy session outside the library.

Help us make the presentations something that you want to see.    If you have an idea for a speaker or would like to speak yourself contact The Vice President.

Special Events

Special Events are those events that are not on the regular Star Party or Indoor Meeting Schedules. These events are usually sponsored by an organization other that the MHAA, but ones in which we participate.

Organizations that have sponsored Special Events are the Town of Union Vale,  (Tymor Park) and The Dwarf Pine Reserve,  (Sam's Point).

Other events you will find here are Astronomy related Conventions,  (NEAF) or Regonial Star Parties,  (Stellafane).

Please note that only those Special Events in which the MHAA participates will have cancellation information on the Infoline or Webpage.
